WORDS, PAGES AND THEN THERE ARE BOOKS 📚.
Hi everyone! I hope you’re doing well in your little corner of this big, magnificent world.
Here’s a buzzer question- What does a book mean to you?
Ever since I was a wee little child, I always loved dropping at a bookstore or the library at school. The smell of freshly printed books- my! The eternal scent of bibliosmia would always bring a smile to my face. It was somewhat calming- smelling a book the minute you pick it up, tracing the words embroidered onto the page through your fingertips. Reading, painting every scene in my brain and becoming the protagonist, all while sitting on a nice, warm couch with a blanket wrapped around you, or sitting in the bus on the way back home, when the rain spatters across foggy windows and adorns it with translucent pearls.
Here’s what a book means to me :).
A WORLD AWAY FROM THIS WORLD
A pigeon’s hoot rest in the air
The Sun is smothered in grey
The trees dance and my hand waits outstretched
To catch the first teardrop of a lone cloud.
The pages of the book are one with the rhythm
Of the melancholic patter of raindrops
My eyes eye the words penned
By a soul which was alive with story.
Then everything evanesces
The letters paint images in my mind
-There’s a girl with silver locks
Walking to the pier in purple twilight.
My hands rest at the tips of the page
On tenterhooks, I watch as my hair turns silver
I can listen to the waves crash
Bathed in moonlight, hands in silent prayer.
My intent eyes gaze across the tranquil sea
And a boat sounds in the dead of night
Nearby, a hound howls and the trees whisper
While I stand transfixed, quiescent.
Thunder crashes, and I’m suddenly back home
I look at my hair which was never silver
In my hands, clasped is this book
Which cast upon me the most potent incantation.
My heart is nowhere in the present
I have become the words of the hushed book
A world away from this world
It’s a portal I never want to come out of forever.
The power a book casts upon you knows no bounds- I can’t even begin to put it into words. You go in and out of immeasurable swarms of galaxies and worlds that you never knew existed and know how it feels like to be in it.
Once you pick up a book, don’t drop it for the rest of your life. Take it with you- it’s the perfect companion.
