A smile- that’s all it takes :)

Let’s take a break. Let’s look at the small things now.

February 2022.

I remember that day, when me and a good friend of mine were walking down the serene street, to the store. There were vendors on their bicycles going home after a pretty good day of business and neighbors of the neighborhood walking their cute little dogs and puppies. “Awww how cute,” I kept musing. The simplest days are sure memorable.

A picture I took on the road

You see, it was just a random stranger. A kind looking lady walking back home with groceries in hand and my friend here waves, “Hi aunty! Hope you had a good day!’’ I was curious, and I asked her, “Do you know her? I have never seen her before.” “Oh, I don’t know her LOL. I just thought it would be nice to wave a hello, and wish her a good day. Thought it’d make her happy. It really lights up a person’s day, you know’’ I was stupefied. I was impressed. I felt happy, hearing her revelation.

18th March 2022.

We had ordered breakfast that day, the colorful day of Holi. The bell rang, and me and my sister ran to the door, eager to have a yummy breakfast of Aloo curry and poori. We opened the door, and received the order from a delivery guy from Zomato, and I decided to try out my friend’s habit. “Hello uncle, thank you! Happy Holi,” with a smile.

That’s all I did. But the huge smile he gave back for the gesture showed genuine merriment and how he was touched by the gesture. Moreover, I felt quite peppy myself, having made someone I don’t even know cheerful on a day of festivity. I couldn’t help but think how right my friend was.

You see, that’s all it takes to light up someone’s day. These days, our busy lives- work, school, etcetera- hardly allow us to make time to just focus on the people around us. We never know how a person’s day must have gone. It must have been a normal day for some, no surprises.

For some, it might have been quite the exciting and eventful day while in the complete contrast, it might have been the worst day for someone. And a little compassion and kindness, a smile, can really add that very much needed color and sunshine to a person’s day, be it someone you know, you love, or a complete stranger. The smallest of the smallest things can make a human being feel lucky, blessed, elated. Starting from today, let’s make sure that all of us have an amazing day and be there for each other through all the hurdles, ups and downs.
